Article Discussion: Nearly two-thirds of Coloradans in poll

Postby Anyabasha on April 14th, 2012, 3:53 am #2441841

A democratically inclined polster with very liberal leanings conducts a poll on gay marriage and then reports that 2/3 of those polled support gay marriage. I am shocked, astounded, bewildered and amazed. Who would have thought that would be the outcome.

Because you think it's still the Eighties and Saint Ronnie is in the White House and real men hate queers.
Sadly, society has moved on without you. Remember all that hysteria about "Hollywood Liberals" pushing the "Gay Agenda", putting funny, lovable homos in movies and on t.v., and teaching school children that it's okay to have two mommies? Well, guess what, Mary? IT WORKED!
Yep! Most people aren't afraid of Gays, anymore. Just about everybody in America (never mind Colorado) has discovered that they actually know a homosexual. And, apparently, they aren't all that different from the rest of us. Well....us....not...you......not so much. And now that Gay Marriage is legal in some states and regular marriage hasn't ceased to exist, all that ridiculous fear-mongering about "traditional families" being DESTROYED if boys marry boys and girls marry girls is now commonly viewed as....reeeedickyoulus.
So get used to hearing it, Adrian. Most folks have more important things to worry about. After all, isn't personal freedom a Conservative value? Do you really want the Government telling you who you can and can't love?
Someone posted that Obama was an "uppity ****. I declared that remark to be stupid and bigoted. The DP banned me for 30 days, for "making racist remarks", proving that reading comprehension isn't required for DP moderators.

...or maybe Mary's right and the "silent majority" is beginning to get louder. If it's put to a vote I think it would be a totally different outcome. This same sort of "gallup poll" also said a "right to work" amendment would pass on Colorado...and it failed quite convincingly.

People's civil rights are not subject to a vote of the people.

That's called rights and not privileges.

Either the "plain meaning" of the words "equal Protection of the Laws" in the 14th Amendment means what it says, or it has NO meaning whatsoever.

Why should "gays" be deprived of the benefit of legal counsel when they break up?
In fact, they should be subjected to entrapment marriage (common law) and, just like heterosexual people, be subjected to having their lives destroyed by unilateral, no-fact divorce. The reality is that, in no way, does the state definition of marriage coincide with how individual people view the concept. It is all about money to both the state and the lawyers who make money in the taxpayer provided playgrounds called "family courts". Most people prefer a "marriage" which is about commitment, but this has been stripped away in favor of awarding half the assets, and more than half the income, to the person who unilaterally walks away. Actually, having the person walk away with more than half your earnings would be an improvement over the current system of being falsely arrested over a bogus "DV" charge and prohibited from returning to your home, while the new boyfriend gets moved in! Go for it gays, enjoy being the primary source of food for sharks who will tear you apart for trying to have a committed relationship!

Wasn't this the pollster that completely missed Santorum's support in Colorado?

Instead of designing an economic policy that helps a working man support a wife and kids, the "Progressive" establishment is committed to eroding a foundational institution of society.

We'll see lots of unintended consequences if civil unions and marriage redefinition come to pass. But then we'll just redefine failure as success to pretend nothing bad happened.

The North Carolina-based polling firm released results Friday that show 62 percent of Colorado voters favor legislation to allow civil unions to only 32 percent against. Senate Bill 2, sponsored by Sen. Pat Steadman, D-Denver, would do that and awaits full consideration by the Democratic-controlled Senate

I find it interesting Steadman and his ilk in the democrat party are so worried about securing a second term for BHO, they are not only pandering to the illegal alien community, but gays as well!

What marvelous vindication it would be for our state to legalize civil unions...20 years after the horrific passage of Amendment 2, that vicious and unconstitutional stripping of fundamental rights of redress of gay Coloradans by their fellow citizens. It was a terrible feeling to know that friends and neighbors took away our rights. Marriage, like all cultural institutions, evolves--otherwise women would still have no rights to divorce, wages, property or custody. And apparently the hearts and minds of Colorado citizens have evolved with the institution. Kudos!

Postby Saxon on April 14th, 2012, 6:59 am #2441963

"Democrats and Barack Obama would like to use social issues a way to distract attention from their failed record," he said.

Exactly. This is one of those issues that gets life pumped into its dead body whenever Dems don't want to talk about how long people have been out of work or how much a gallon of gas costs these days.

Colorado voters have already shot down the matter of Gay Marriage, as have about 35 other states (even California).

Steadman and his ilk? What do you mean by ilk? Gay people? He's just fighting for his rights as he always has, and Obama has nothing to do with it.

Article Discussion: Nearly two-thirds of Coloradans in poll

Postby Pluggy Wan Kenobi on April 14th, 2012, 7:07 am #2441974

Real Americans will recognize this is one of the last remaining inequalities that needs to be rectified. 100% of my household will gladly vote not only for civil unions, but gay/homosexual marriage. We really shouldn't be voting on this from my perspective, this should be settled once and for all via the Supreme Court.

No one should be voting on other's civil rights.

The third against civil unions represent Colorado Springs!

Interesting that the constant screamers for liberty and freedom really only mean it if it fits their ideology! What they really mean is they want freedom and liberty only for white, Christian straight males. Pathetic.
Arguing with a conservative is like playing chess with a pigeon. You get angry. The pigeon embarrasses itself by cra*ping on the board, knocks over the pieces, then flies off to tell its friends how it won the game.

What a load.

Btw, this country is not an anarchy, freedom is not unlimited. The Founders wanted freedom, not free dumb.

We also had anti-obscenity laws in the media until the late 1950s. I'd like to see those come back. Why protect streams from pollution to protect fish if we are going to allow the media to dump any type of poison into the minds of our kids? This makes no sense and it's not an issue of "freedom" any more than it is allowing unrestricted dumping.

This poll means that 2/3's of the people polled were liberals. The PPP poll means very little. It's one of the most unreliable and biased polls out there. If this issue was put before the voters it would be voted down again. When are the politicians going to start listening to the people?
